The Wheatsheaf Inn at Low Lorton is approximately ten minutes walk, the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater is approximately ten minutes drive and there is also the Fish Inn at Buttermere Village. Lorton has a village shop also grass and hard court tennis at the local club. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick have a full range of facilities including several supermarkets. Sainsbury’s and Aldi in Cockermouth, Booths and the Co-op in Keswick, Extensive outdoor clothing shops, Gift shops and Galleries. Both Towns have public Swimming pools also there is a Cinema and the Pencil museum in Keswick and Golf courses at both Keswick and Cockermouth. Whinlatter Forest Park is approximately three miles away and provides Mountain biking and Orienteering courses, the Forestry enterprise visitor centre is a marvelous place to see( Ospreys) in the spring and summer months. There are Five Lakes within Six miles, offering Sailing, Canoeing and Fishing. There is also some excellent Walking and Mountaineering within some of the country’s best natural areas with both beautiful and stunning scenery.
